![]() If you keep this in mind throughout the second phase, you'll be far less likely to be caught out by a follow-up attack. As mentioned before, almost all attacks from Liang come in sets of two, whether it's slams into air launches, creating rows of rocky spikes, or wide horizontal sweeps. This launch into the air is preceded by a downwards slap with the demonic arm, so be ready to perform pairs of deflections throughout this phase. Zhang will also become far more acrobatic in this phase, performing a number of flips into the air where he will hang for a moment before slamming his demonic arm down. If you fail to deflect it, he'll grab you and whip you around, dealing significant damage. If that doesn't cause Spirit Disruption, he'll only be a hit or so away at this point, so get aggressive and you'll likely be able to execute a Fatal Strike after just a couple more attacks. If you deflect just as the arm reaches you, you'll kick it to the side and drag Liang forward slightly into a staggered state. This has incredible range, so don't let your guard down if there is a little distance between you and Liang. He'll telegraph this by pulling his left arm back for a brief second (with the usual red glow denoting a Critical Blow attack), before the arm lunges forward. There is a couple of seconds where Liang pulls his club back before charging, which can easily catch you out if you deflect before he begins running at you.Ī Critical Blow attack he'll often attempt (and is likely the one you'll want to counter the most) is a grab with his elongated demonic arm. This is telegraphed, but the time to deflect is later than you might think. Zhang can use his club to summon rows of rocky shards from the ground, which look like you can't deflect them, but you actually can if timed correctly.Īnother move he'll use in both phases, but particularly in this second phase, is a ramming move with his club. ![]() The color of the lock-on marker will change to indicate if you are at the proper distance to perform a Fatal Strike. Zhang will use Critical Blow attacks far more freely in this phase, and that’s a good thing, because it only takes one successful deflection of a Critical Blow from him (and maybe one or two Normal attacks), to stagger him with Spirit Disruption and allow you to perform a Fatal Strike whilst he is defenseless. Zhang will perform some similar moves, but will often double up, requiring multiple deflects in a row that have altered timing. ![]() This phase is all about patience and attrition, even more so than the first phase. You’ll always have a brief moment of respite to heal as the second phase begins, as Zhang will always start with a sweep of his demonic arm that will never have the range to hit you from your starting position. Denoted with the red glow, the only barrier to this tactic is timing, which will come with studying attacks, and likely multiple deaths and attempts. In both phases, as with many of the coming boss fights in the game, your ace in the hole is deflecting any and all Critical Blow attacks that an enemy performs. As usual, keep your lock-on engaged on Liang as he does so, and don't get trigger happy with the deflect button wait until the last moment as he slams down. Liang will occasionally launch into the air with his club, which will cause him to hang in the air for a second or two before slamming down. Every little bit of damage counts!Īfter each of his attacks (should you successfully deflect) you’ll have a brief window in which you can perform a Normal, Normal, Spirit attack combo that can keep him stunlocked for brief periods of time, and if it is rapidly repeated you can whittle his health down quickly. Whilst the spells aren’t super effective, the brief moments of distance you can gain from Zhang in this first phase will allow you to cast a couple of spells. If you haven’t already unlocked and assigned any Wizardry Spells, it’s worth doing so at the Battle Flag if you die and need another attempt at defeating Zhang. If you want a couple of free hits, immediately sprint towards him at the beginning of the fight as he slams down his mace/club weapon, and even use a Martial Arts attack if you’re feeling confident. Whilst Zhang will by far be the most agile and aggressive opponent you have faced thus far, his first phase shouldn’t prove too much trouble so long as you have a good grasp of the Deflect mechanic.
